User Workshop Presentations February 2025
On February 13, 2025, an interactive user workshop took place in Antwerp. The goal was to specify and better understand the various user requirements underlying the envisioned AGATE services on agricultural emissions.
Participants and Stakeholders
In this user workshop, several early adopter user organisations from each region presented their role and specific data needs. The morning session focused on the South(east) Asia regions whilst the afternoon was dedicated to the European target regions.
The key early adopter organisations for the Asian domain are the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI, India) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT, Thailand).
The users for the European domain are:
- ARPA – Regional Agency for the Protection of the Environment - Lombardy, Italy
- RIVM – National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, The Netherlands
- VLM – Flemish Land Agency, Belgium
- VMM – Flanders Environment Agency, Belgium
Next to these early adopters in each of the regions, globally, UNEP’s IMEO (International Methane Emissions Observatory) team are interested in the methane products and in particular the technical methodology being used to develop the products, especially for Asia.
Workshop Outcomes
From the perspective of the AGATE team, the workshop gave us the opportunity to better understand the current state of the art and the challenges each stakeholder faces in the various regions regarding compilation and quality of their agricultural emissions data, as well as its purpose. It also provided the project team with valuable information regarding the users’ technical requirements for the AGATE as well as any local information they may have that could support the downscaling and validation activities later in the project.
From the viewpoint of the users, the workshop provided them the opportunity to learn more about the proposed AGATE emission products and the project in general and gave them a platform to ask and share experiences with the other users. This was much appreciated by the stakeholders.
What's Ahead for AGATE?
Over the next year, in interaction with the users, the derived emissions will be downscaled and validated to provide high-resolution emissions for specific subsectors (crops and livestock) and agricultural hotspots.
